What a winter it has been. Not only have we had a particularly snowy season so far (often on Mondays) but I have also been horrified watching the United States further descend towards a totalitarian and, in many ways, fascist regime.
There have been many moments when I have had to step away from the news as citizens are murdered by masked paramilitary police in the US, and as suffering continues in both Gaza and Ukraine – on top of many other humanitarian and natural disasters around the world.
Thankfully, there have been some brighter spots this winter including Canada serving as a beacon to the world with Mark Carney’s speech at Davos and the wonderful and thoughtful (and pretty steamy) Heated Rivalry gay hockey romance TV show produced by Crave based on the writing of Nova Scotia author, Rachel Reid.

While this has been going on, I have continued my degoogling efforts to try to break free of reliance on U.S. based big tech companies toward more open-source, self-hosted or privacy-aware hosts outside the United States.
Recently I moved my email, calendar and cloud storage away from Google. Those were steps 5, 6 and 7 in my previous post. I have not closed the old accounts yet and am still in the process of ensuring everything is in the right place with the best service but it feels good to take another step on this journey.
