Hospital New Year

Back in September I was diagnosed with gallstones which was the reason for the excruciating pain I experienced. After a CT Scan and an ultrasound, I met with a surgeon and agreed that the gallbladder had to come out. He said two to three weeks, so I returned to work and told colleagues I would soon disappear for a routine elective surgery.

As we headed to the Christmas holiday break, it was around 10 weeks after my three week warning of surgery. I survived Christmas Day and Boxing Day but on 27th the pain started up and it was different than before (when each time it had eventually passed). The next day I went straight to the emergency room (ER) had many tests, put straight on IV painkillers and antibiotics and given another CT Scan. This confirmed that I had to stay in the hospital and the gallstones had caused pancreatitis.

The antibiotics needed to treat the infection to make me well enough to have surgery to remove the gallbladder. I received excellent care and although I had a very quiet New Year’s Eve in the hospital, I was well enough on New Year’s Day to undergo surgery. A little recovery time and hopefully no more brushes with ill health and surgery in 2025.

The photo is me on the morning after surgery, waiting to be discharged.

  1. @traveller63 The pain is something else isn’t it? The IV painkillers were such a relief. I hope you have found things have gone well for you post-gallbladder. I am hearing nothing but positive stories once the darn thing is out!
